Realising that existing hardiness ratings didn't speak to many northern growers, who can expect daffodils still to be in bloom in July, he devised a colour-coded map for the magazine. This was based on Met Office records of average winter temperatures, and was a useful resource for his recent book, Garden Plants for Scotland, which he co-authored with Kenneth Cox. |
